Sarita Gayle Alvarez
Sarita’s love of music and dance began to blossom at the age of four with her training in Ballet. She continued to train at Randolph Academy’s open program in Jazz, Modern and Hip Hop for many years with master instructors such as Siona Jackson, Shawn Byfield and Ingrid Abbot. Sarita began her training in Belly Dance at Arabesque Academy with Yasmina Ramzy, Denise Mireau and Saba Alemayehu. In 2007 she graduated from the Arabesque Professional Course and later that year joined the Arabesque Dance Company and Orchestra as an apprentice. Sarita was honoured to participate as a lead dance artist in Arabesque Dance Company’s stage productions EGYPT (2009), OUM (2010) and SAWAH (2014) at Fleck Dance Theatre. In 2010 Sarita traveled to Cairo, Egypt for six weeks to study with master Egyptian teachers. In 2011 & 2013 Sarita traveled to Camaguey, Cuba to train intensively for four months with the Afro-Cuban dance company FUZION. In 2013 Sarita was ecstatic to be featured as a guest performing artist in FUZION’s competitive show for los carnivales in Santa Lucia. Her love of Cuban dance and Bellydance led Sarita to create her own blend of the two styles: Latinbelly. Sarita was a senior instructor at Arabesque Academy from 2007-2015. She also taught Middle Eastern Folklore courses at Fleming College’s Haliburton School of the Arts summer program from 2009-2011. Sarita performs as a soloist in the GTA, and her performance highlights include dancing onstage with Wyclef Jean. Her TV credits include Wedding SOS as well as Dragon’s Den. Sarita is a member of the Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists as well as the Canadian Dance Assembly. She brings her passion and love for dance and music to all her classes and performances.
