Melissa Gamal is an established Bellydance artist based in Toronto, Canada. Her authentic movement style and elegant musical interpretation have made her one of the most beloved performers within the Arab community in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. Her foremost training has been at Arabesque Academy under the instruction of Yasmina Ramzy. Driven to always expand her knowledge of this dance, she has also trained with world-renowned instructors from across North America, Europe and the Middle East, including 2 months of intensive study in Cairo, Egypt in 2010. Her biggest inspirations come from the great Egyptian dancers: Samia Gamal, Suhair Zaki, Fifi Abdo, Dina Talaat and many more. Melissa is proficient in a variety of other Middle Eastern dance styles, including Saidii, Khaleeji, Debke, Tannoura and more.
In addition to her solo career, she was also a lead dancer in Arabesque Dance Company from 2006 to 2014 and appeared in six of their stage productions, as well as their 2010 tour of Western Canada. An experienced instructor, her classes and workshops are sought after for her attention to technique as well as her knowledge of historical and cultural contexts.
